Bicameral congressional leaders have released a spending package that contains a number of cannabis-related items. Legislators are aiming to pass the package yet this week.
The package includes report language that calls for the federal government to study state legalization laws and expand scientists’ access to commercially available cannabis for research. Another part of the package urges the DOJ to work with other agencies with “relevant regulatory expertise” to asses the “adequacy of state marijuana regulatory frameworks”. Other items in the package include preserving protections for state medical cannabis programs and hemp research.
