In 2023, Michigan cannabis retailers sold more than $3 billion worth of medical and recreational product – about a third more than 2022’s total of $2.29 billion. 

December 2023 set a new monthly sales record in the state with over $279.9 million in total sales, beating the record previously set in July 2023 ($276.7 million). In November, state officials said that tax revenue from cannabis grew by 49% compared to the previous fiscal year, surpassing the amount of revenue made from alcohol sales.
