Michigan marijuana industry sees largest month-over-month decline in sales as 24% wholesale tax goes into effect.

LANSING, Mich. — As Michigan’s 24% wholesale tax on marijuana takes effect, the state’s cannabis industry experienced its largest month-over-month percentage drop in sales since adult-use sales were legalized in 2019.

Between December 2025 and January 2026, the industry saw a 15.89% drop in combined sales of adult-use and medicinal marijuana, according to the latest data from the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency. That drop in sales, which equated to about $43 million less in combined sales of adult-use and medical marijuana in January, was the largest since adult-use sales were legalized, but it is still in line with historic trends of sales.
